A Pediatrician, a Chef, and a Mom

Jacqueline Winkelmann, M.D. – known to many as “Doctor Jacq” – is a Board Certified Pediatrician with a special interest in Childhood Nutrition and Sports Nutrition for Young Athletes. However, Doctor Jacq is not only a Pediatrician and Nutrition Expert – she’s a dedicated Chef and Mother of two. Combined together, Doctor Jacq has the knowledge, expertise, and experience to teach young athletes how to make healthier choices when it comes to nutrition.

Jacqueline Winkelmann, M.D. studied at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed her Residency in Pediatrics at Hope Children’s Hospital in Chicago. She has been on staff at CHOC Children’s and CHOC Children’s at Mission Hospital since 2001, where Doctor Jacq has held many administrative positions, and she is currently Chief-of Staff for CHOC Children’s at Mission Hospital.

Doctor Jacq was awarded the “Physician of Excellence” in Pediatrics by the Orange County Medical Association and Orange Coast Magazine in 2013, 2014 and was again recently selected for 2015. She has always been passionate about Pediatric Nutrition, participating as a Regional Medical Director for PE4ME: Healthy for Life, an obesity prevention and intervention program based in the public schools of Orange County. Just recently, as part of Arpan Global Charities, Doctor Jacq participated in a two-week medical mission to Latacunga, Ecuador.

Doctor Jacq continues to attend national conferences about nutrition and works closely with sports teams in Orange County, where she educates the players, their coaches, and their parents about the importance of nutrition for young athletes.

Doctor Jacq has always had a passion for food and healthy cooking. She was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where her mother was a caterer and taught cooking classes for years. It was in Puerto Rico where Doctor Jacq developed a passion for cooking, as well as education.

For the past four years, Doctor Jacq has participated in a Harvard Medical School/School of Public Health Nutrition Conference entitled “Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives” at the Culinary Institute of America in Napa, CA. She has attended cooking classes in Orange County, the Culinary Institute of America in Napa, Puerto Rico, and Tuscany. Combining her love for cooking and educating, Doctor Jacq offers team cooking classes for young athletes and their parents.

  • Doctor Jacq, The Caring Mom Of Two

Doctor Jacq has been married to her husband Rob for 20 years. They currently reside in Orange County, California with their two children – Megan (16) and Ryan (11). Megan has been a competitive figure skater for the past four years. She trains early in the morning before school and also takes pilates and ballet lessons. Their son, Ryan, is an ice hockey player on a tournament team and also practices five days a week.

Doctor Jacq understands the challenges of feeding young athletes and has made every effort to teach her kids about the importance of food as fuel. With one picky-eater and very busy schedules, Doctor Jacq continues to reinforce that eating the right foods – at the right time – can make all the difference.
